Welcome to the coaching page

Bedford & County AC have exclusive use of the Track & Field facilities and Bedford International Athletics Stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the year. The facility and coaching is available to all club members provided they have paid the stadium fee and club membership fee.  Both fees are renewable on the 1st April each year.

The club is very lucky in having so many good coaches across so many events. There is a vacancy for a shot put coach. If you are interested in becoming a coach please contact Allen Adamson.

Coaching takes place on:

   - Club nights, Tuesday and Thursday 18:15 to 20:00 for older groups

  - Some groups also train on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday morning

  - A club circuit training night takes place on Wednesday 18:15-19:15

For younger athletes

  - Beagles for 7-11 years old  children, Saturday mornings 10:45-12:15

  - Passport for children over 11 joining the club, Tuesday and Thursday 17:30-18:30

News

All coaches should have their coaching licence with them when coaching. The stadium staff will only issue equipment to qualified coaches and may ask for your licence .

As yet there is no news on UKA rule changes for the 2013 track and field season. They are due to announced in February.

Details of the proposed UKYAL are attached.

The next coaches meeting  is on Thursday 8th March. Main agenda items; confirming aims for the season with team managers; coping with influx of athletes because of the Olympics.  If there are other agenda items you would like raised please let me know.

Athletics Leader

- a one day course with no assessment, for parents and young people (16+) who would like to help out at the club.

Coaching Assistant (old level 1)

- a two day course, no assessment,   for adults who wish to lead a group under the supervision of an Athletics Coach. This is the first step to becoming a coach.

Athletics Coach (old level 2 and 3)

 - a four day course with assessment which enables coaches to lead a group of any age.

Running Coach(level 2)

- a follow on from Assistant Coach targeted at running coaches

Children’s Coach (level 2)

- a follow on from Assistant Coach targeted at coaches who want to work with children.

Running Coach and Children’s Coach are new awards.  At present there is nothing in place to replace the old level 4, performance coach.

For more details see the England Athletics website and this flyer.

Coach Development

Coach development is about improving your coaching once you have gained an award. The club, County Athletics Network and EA offer opportunities to further coaching knowledge through local and national courses.

In addition coaches can be mentored, go along and observe other coaches, invite experienced coaches to the club (Flying Coach visit), read up on the internet or coaching books.

Please let me know of other resources you think we should add to the list.

Coaching Qualifications

You can find a  document explaining the roles and responsibilities of the various coaching awards here.
