On the 1st November, Bedford and County travelled to Mansfield for the highly anticipated National Cross County Relays, taking on a newly crafted and challenging course. All teams excelled, with honourable mentions to the youngest runners on the boys’ side, the Under 13 and 15 Boys.
Under 13 Girls
One team was entered in the Under 13 Girls, who finished 23rd out of 80 teams. Completing the 2K route in 24:40, the tightly competitive race meant they were only 1 minute and 35 seconds away from a medal.
Under 13 Boys
2 teams finished in the Under 13 Boys, the A team finishing in a brilliant 8th with a time of 22:16. The second leg runner managing to overtake 12 people, pulling Bedford into 13th place!
Under 15 Boys
Definitely the best performance of the afternoon once again came from the Under 15 Boys, who have consistently challenged for a medal at every race this season. The A team came home in a sensational 2nd place, 4 seconds away from winning. The second leg runner came from 14th to 2nd in a matter of minutes, being the fastest finisher on leg 2. The B team came 42nd with a time of 21:35.
Under 17 Girls
One U17 Womens’ team finished in a time of 30:08, fighting to a valiant 20th place.
Under 17 Boys
1 team was entered in the U17 Boys race, in which they finished 63rd, with a time of 31:41 over 3k.
Junior Men
A very good performance was put in over the two teams in the Junior Men, with the A team (3 of the youngest athletes in the age group) coming 9th. Meanwhile the B team fought for a respectable 27th place, finishing in a time of 29:19.
Senior Women
The Senior Women’s A team ran a solid race to finish in the top 25, the time being 33:14. Second leg runner Rebecca M amazingly ran 10:22, passing 22 people en route to 20th. They ended up finishing 24th out of 122. The B team managed 120th.
Senior Men
Another 2 teams were entered for the Senior Men, the A team coming home in 12th with a time of 1:03:01. The 2nd leg runner, Noah C passed 14 to pull Bedford into 13th. The B team came 62nd, in a time of 1:10:16.
