Congratulations to Etienne Maughan who broke the club's Under 20 Women's 100m Hurdles record in the NAL match at the weekend. Etienne's new record is 14.25 seconds. Congratulations also to Glen Kerr, who broke his own M45 Hammer club record with a throw of 52.22 metres at the SEAA Championships on 4th June.
Ben Davies produced a 3:44.22 1500m personal best in the BMC Gold Standard race at Watford last night, finishing second to Olympian, Elliot Giles. Congratulations to Ben on a fantastic performance, which may have been the second fastest 1500m ever by a Bedford and County member.
We got off to a great start to the National Athletics League (NAL) season, with a second-place finish in our home match yesterday (Sunday 11th June). Competing against Belgrave Harriers, Bristol and West, Cardiff, The City of Liverpool, The City of Portsmouth, Herts Phoenix and Herne Hill Harriers, Bedford and County came second overall, coming second in the men's match (by only 3 points), and finishing third in the Women's Match.
Congratulations to Raph Bouju who set a new club Senior Men's 100m record of 10.02 seconds whilst running at the EAP meeting in Geneva at the weekend. Raph is getting very close to breaking the 10.00 second barrier. Although Raph is now running in Holland, and his performances are not on the Power of Ten, 10.02 would put him twelfth on the UK all-time list.
Congratulations to Tennyson James who set a new club M65 record for 100m Hurdles at the Eastern Masters league match at Cambridge on 7th June. The new mark is 17.4 seconds.
Congratulations to Bob Kingman who broke Tony Mackay’s 33 year old M50 Pole Vault club record with a vault of 3.70m in the SAL match at Braintree on 20th May.
Congratulations to four Bedford and County athletes who won awards at the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire County Championships on 13th and 14th May. They were:
127 Bedford and County athletes registered for the main meeting, and 35 for the 1500m (run on a different day).
For all the Bedford and County winners, and the full results see Bedfordshire County Championships.
As part of the club’s recognition of Alex and Rosemary’s success and contribution to athlete development upon their retirement, it has been decided to award a bursary of £100 for the next 5 years starting in May 2023.
We are pleased to announce that Eleanor Smith is the first recipient of the bursary.
Congratulations to Lyla Danobrega, who broke her own club Under 17 and Senior Women's 1500m Steeplechase record on Saturday 29th April at the West Suffolk Steeplechase Festival with a time of 5:21.00.
Congratulations to Glen Kerr, who set a new M45 Hammer Club Record of 51.44 Metres at Milton Keynes on 15th April. This beats Glen's own mark from last year.
