Match 2 turned out to be our toughest match so far this season with many of our older athletes missing due to GCSEs and the 3Km and Steeple Chase Championships at Bedford.  Our younger athletes stepped up well producing 56 PBs – 33 for the girls and 23 for the boys.  This was the first time we had long hurdles in the EYAL. Several of our athletes stepped up to take on this challenge - Lena (30.2), Poppy (35.2) and Adam (29.2) in the U14 200mH, Margot 59.9 in the U16G 300mH and Kirstie 81.00 and Archie 63.0 in the 400mH.

 

We are currently 6th in the league 36 points behind Shaftesbury in 5th and 8.5 points ahead of Basildon in 7th.  With our next 2 matches being at Biggleswade and Bedford we can hopefully consolidate on this position.

Megan and Poppy have received Alex and Rosemary's bursary for this year for their commitment to training, competing for the club and encouraging their team mates across all the ages groups.

Well done to everyone who competed in the SEAA Track and Field Championships at Bedford last weekend.

It was the 2nd round of the Eastern Masters Track and Field League at Bedford on Wednesday evening 3rd June.
 
On a wet and blustery evening (with brilliant double rainbows), Bedford's men again won by a narrow 7 points over Milton Keynes consolidating their position at the top of the division. 
Good to see that there were many new faces in the team.
 
Bedford's Ladies, again struggling for numbers came 4th of the 5 teams.
 
The Pole Vault was Bedford's star event with all 5 vaulters winning their respective categories. Gavin Fordham won all 3 of his events in the M35 category.

Several Bedford throwers made the journey to Cambridge for the Eastern Counties Championships. The weather was blisteringly hot, but everyone has been working incredibly hard in training, and their performances reflected that commitment.

Holder Botha delivered a solid 32.68m in the U16 Boys' Discus, finishing 5th in a closely contested competition and narrowly missing out on the medals.

Imaari Campbell-Joseph produced an excellent performance in the U18 Girls' Discus, throwing a 2m personal best of 25.00m to secure a well-deserved bronze medal.

Squad member Milan Snarskis claimed victory in the U18 Boys' Hammer with a winning throw of 47.83m.

Mia Flynn continued her outstanding season by realising her discus potential with a 2m personal best to win bronze in the U16 Girls' Discus. In the hammer throw she also produced the standout performance of the day in the female throwing events, launching the hammer 50.46m to set a new U16 Girls' Championship Record.

The BIGish Field Champs were held at Bedford on 25th May.
 
This was a very high level match with many of the athletes seeking qualification performances for the Commonwealth Games or European Championships later this year.
 
Five Bedford athletes were competing in the event at their home track.
 
Bedford had 3 athletes in the hammer:
 
Glen Kerr won his competition with a near season's best of 55.68m with the 6k hammer.
 
Mia Flynn was the top rated U16 Lady with a throw of 50.93m with the 3k hammer.
 
Darren Kerr threw 47.28m with the 6k hammer.
 
And 2 athletes in the High Jump: 
 
Gracie Wall very close to her season's best with 1.68m.
 
Zaphaniah Bryan coming a very close 2nd in his competition setting a new PB by 3cm of 2.05m.
