Mia Flynn claimed victory at the inaugural U16 England Athletics South Regional Winter Long Throws Championships 2026 in testing conditions at Lea Valley Athletics Centre.
Battling torrential rain and biting, horizontal winds, Mia delivered a composed and consistent performance. She produced three throws over 47 metres, with a best mark of 47.62m — an impressive result given the challenging weather.
The competition combined U16 and U18 age groups, creating a strong and competitive field. Mia opened confidently with a solid 44m throw while several athletes struggled to register early valid marks. Building momentum throughout the rounds, she saved her best performance for the sixth and final round.
Mia finished 1st in the U16 category and 6th overall from the 15 combined U16/U18 competitors.
Next stop: National Winter Long Throws Championships on 1 March.
