Three Bedford and County athletes competed in high quality fests at Chelmsford over the bank holiday weekend.

On Saturday Thaila-Jade Mason set a lifetime best of 15.28sec in the 100m hurdles at the Bruce Longden Hurdles Fest and then followed it up on Monday with a season's best of 5.85m long jump at the Biggish Field Events meeting.

Meanwhile also at the Biggish meeting, High Jumper Gracie Wall was just 1 centimetre off her season's best with 1.64m while training partner Zaphaniah Bryan cleared 1.92m for his second highest jump of the year.

Congratulations to Tom Litchfield who was selected to play for Northampton Saints in yesterday’s European Champions cup final v Bordeaux.

Tom was a Bedford and County AC club stalwart representing our junior teams all the way from U13 through to U20, across most events. His main specialism was as a hammer thrower, for which he represented Bedfordshire at the ESAA champs.

Yesterday, the British Masters Athletics Federations'(BMAF) Throws Pentathlon took place at Horspath Track - Oxford.

Darren Kerr won gold in the Men's 55 year old category in a very close and high quality competition, beating some very accomplished throwers.

Graeme Packman was also competing in the Men's 70 year old category and won a bronze medal.

The Throws Pentathlon consists of the hammer, shot, discus, Javelin and heavy weight with performances in each being turned into a points score and aggregated across the 5 events.

Congratulations to Alex Swiecicki on setting a new masters club record at the first EMAC League match at Sandy on Weds 7th May 2025.

He ran 6 mins 34.1 secs in the M75 1500m.

This time is just over 1min inside the BMAF Merit Standard for that age group.

On Monday Paula Radcliffe, Life Vice President of Bedford & County, ran the Boston Marathon finishing in a time of 2 hours 53 minutes 46 seconds. This run breaks her own W50 marathon club record that she set only 7 weeks ago in Tokyo.

The Tokyo Marathon was Paula's first marathon in a decade after retiring from competitive running in 2015, and her time of 2 hours 57 minutes 22 seconds took an hour off the previous W50 club record.

Paula has added Six Star finisher to her roll of honour after completing the Boston Marathon as her final World Major Marathon. In a full circle moment Paula was awarded her Six Star Medal in Boston, 33 years after she won her first international medal there at the World Cross Country Championships in 1992.

Congratulations Paula!

Brothers Glen and Darren Kerr hammered it at the weekend producing superb performances at the Dickenson Classic held at Windsor on Saturday 19th April. Glen threw a magnificent 56.78m to go 9th on the UK all-time M50 rankings. Not to be outdone, Darren produced a new M55 record of 48.06.M. Both promise more to come this season.
