It’s not only Liverpool who can win European titles.
Bedford and County has its very own European Champions: Tennyson James won a tight-fought M60 100m Hurdles at the European Masters Championships in Venice in a season’s best of 15.59 seconds. Tenny also set a club record of 47.77 seconds whilst coming 7th in the 300m Hurdles.
Alex Swiecicki won the gold in the M70 2000m Steeplechase, in a time of 8.24.26, and also came third in the 4000m cross-country, beating the fourth-placed athlete by one second.
To complete the medal tally, Pete Benedickter took bronze in the M50 400m Hurdles in a club record of 60.68 seconds, and Penny Butcher also earned bronze in the W60 Heptathlon, amassing a club record of 4770 points. Penny also set other club records on her way to the bronze: 15.86 seconds for the 80m Hurdles, 34.17 seconds for the 200m, and 16.96m in the Javelin.
Well done to all who took part.
