The Eastern Masters League was completed on Saturday 25th September at Milton Keynes with the traditional Final Meeting, when the top two from each of the three divisions plus the next two best teams compete for the Trophy. Old adversaries Bedford and Milton Keynes got off to a steady start in the 400m hurdles and then continued to vie for the lead all afternoon, with Thurrock and PANVAC (Peterborough and Nene Valley AC) always just behind, competing for third place. The highlight of the afternoon was the breaking of the British M70 triple jump best by Bedford’s Dave Folgate, but sadly this cannot be considered as a record as there was no wind gauge, although the wind all afternoon was negligible, and with the warm weather it was ideal for athletics.
In the M35-49 category James Danobrega and Gavin Fordham continued to show their versatility by covering the field events, and with Steve Bass stepping in to cover the sprint events at short notice. The distance events showed the strength of both Simon Coombes (M45) and Ewan Wilson (M50) who both managed to compete at 800, 1500 and 3000, ably supported by Chris Andrews. In the M50 and M60 age groups the evergreen athletes Pete Benedickter, Tenny James and Graeme Packman continue to defy the clock with great performances. In the 2000m race walk, previously one of B&C AC’s weaker events, we have found in Adam Hills and John Borgas two competent and competitive athletes who showed their class and achieved full points.

Above: the start of the 2000m Walk, with Adam 2nd from right and John 4th from right.
The field events M50 & M60 competitions, Phil Bowers (M50) was undefeated in the long, triple and high jumps, together with Dave Folgate in the M60 group.
The final Match positions were not confirmed until the last few results and the highly entertaining relay results were known. The relay this year being 400m, 200m,200, and a final 400m leg. The team being composed of some very tired athletes.
Well done to all athletes and to those officials who spend a long day in some good weather.
And finally if any one finds a leg ....... with and orange trainer...

...it belongs to Adam !

Calling all M35s!
The masters team has done tremendously well, but is short in the youngest age bracket - M35. In the EMAC league, this covers men between 35 and 49 years of age. To remain competitive in the 2022 season, we could really do with more 'young masters' - so if that is you, please get in touch with the team manager,
With thanks to Nicolae Hogas for the photos.
