The Bedford & County junior boys endurance squad had a good turnout at the National Cross Country Relays, fielding 4 teams across the age groups. Held at the traditional venue of Berry Hill Park, Mansfield, the weather was reasonably kind with only light rain and cool temperatures making for high quality racing throughout the day.
First up were the U13 boys with Finley Bent (7:19) leading out strongly on the fast but technical 2km course. Oliver Coombes (8:20) and Berkley Barnicoat (7:38) ran the second and third legs, finishing in 20th place out of 72 teams.
The U17 men’s team comprised Euan Supple (9:25), Daniel Smith (10:36) and Cameron Barnes (10:02). Euan was 9th fastest on the first 3km leg with the team coming in 31st out of 81.
Last to race were the U15 boys, competing over the 2km course. The seemingly inseparable Theo Beale (7:13) and Isaac Mitchell (7:14) worked well together on the fast first leg, finishing almost side by side for the A and B teams. Harry Scott (7:21) then made his way up through the field, gaining 10 places. Oliver Wilson (7:09) ran the anchor leg, taking another 10 places to bring the A team home in 32nd of 95. Zach Danobrega (8:07) and Archie Henderson (7:43), both running strongly as year 1 athletes, completed the B team who finished in 60th.
Attention now turns to the second round of the Chiltern League Cross Country
